How to Hang a Hammock

Hanging a hammock is simple but requires care. One can easily learn the art of hanging a hammock with the help of the following guidelines:

Location: One should choose a proper location for hanging a hammock. Though most people think of hanging a hammock between two trees, but a hammock can also be hung between two posts or walls that can support the weighing capacity of hammock. Make sure that the posts are in good condition, with no cracks or rot.

Hanging Distance: The minimum hanging distance for a hammock without spreader bars is two third of the overall length of the hammock.

Height: For a hammock without spreader bars, 6-8 feet above the ground is the optimum height for hanging the hammock. A hammock without spreader bar is flexible to hang and therefore can be adjusted in the available space you have for hanging a hammock.

Space: As the overall length of hammock is 10 ft., these hammocks require a minimum space of 10-12 ft. to hang. A hammock without spreader bar is flexible to hang and therefore can be adjusted to the space you have.

What you need:

  1. Ft of ….rope
  2. One or two hooks
  3. 2 clips
  4. Drill (if necessary)

Instructions:

  • Pick the area where you want to hang your hammock from. Make sure they are both solid (wall or ceiling studs, fence, post, tree). Hang your hammock on a space of at least 8 to 12 ‘ apart. The hanging points should be approximately 6 ‘ from the ground. You may choose to hang it higher or lower depending on how far you like it from the ground.
  • Tie a rope around the post or tree with knot 1. If it’s a beam, wall or ceiling stud, then drill & install a hook. Hang the rope from the hook. Then attach a snap hook to each side and hang the hammock from the clips. This way you can easily take down the hammock when needed.

 

How to use your hammock:

When you enter your hammock, fully extend the hammock with a hand and hold the other end for you to sit. Sit back carefully in the center and then extend lengthwise & lift up your feet (make sure you’re in the center).

To exit your hammock, go back to the sitting >position and prop up using your legs for support.

 

Cleaning and Care:

If it’s necessary you may hand wash your hammock with mild detergent only. After washing, fully extend & let it dry completely. During winter or rainy season, it’s preferable to store your hammock to preserve its life. Avoid keeping your hammock in direct sunlight for long periods of time. Always store your hammock completely dry, avoiding damp moist areas.
